NON-ANESTHETIC DENTISTRY

YOUR PET’S DENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT TO US!

Quality dental care is an essential part of your pet living a long healthy life. Many pet owners are not aware that Dental Disease is the most common disease in cats and dogs. Over 68% of all pets over the age of three have some form of periodontal or dental disease. Bacteria from diseased teeth and gums enter your pet’s bloodstream carrying infection to organs such as the lungs, heart, kidneys, and liver. One of the major causes of heart disease (Endocarditis) in dogs is dental disease. Although these infections are usually treatable, they can cause serious damage and if not caught in time, may even cause death.

SIGNS OF DENTAL DISEASE ON YOUR PET INCLUDE:

  • Bad Breath
  • Red Swollen Gums
  • Tartar (A yellow or brown accumulation on the tooth surface)
  • Loose Teeth

Periodontal Disease is the term used to describe inflammation or infection of the tissues surrounding the tooth. A pet’s mouth contains thousands of bacteria which breed on the surface of the teeth and form an invisible layer called Plaque. If allowed to remain on the teeth, the plaque thickens, mineralizes, and becomes visible as tartar. Inflammation and infection (Gingivitis) occur when the tartar presses against the gums causing the gums to recede. Ultimately the tooth socket become infected and erodes, leading to mobility and loss of teeth.

Periodontal Disease can be prevented and treated. Good home care along with professional veterinary dental care is the key to your pet’s oral health.

The veterinarian may recommend an appointment be scheduled for your pet to have the teeth cleaned, polished as well as any other dental work needed.

Following the professional scaling, we send home a dental packet which includes a toothbrush and toothpaste. We advise the use of Oravet Sealant which is applied weekly to help prevent the future buildup of tartar. Our goal is to recommend the treatment and preventative measures to ensure your pet lives a long and healthy life.

We now offer the NEW and POPULAR Non-Anesthetic Dental Procedures for appropriate candidates. Animal Dental Care works with us on a monthly basis to provide this stellar service to our clients.  Their 7-step professional teeth cleaning is performed without the use of anesthesia which offers pet owners an alternative method for cleaning and maintaining their pet’s teeth. The next step in their program includes working with Buckley Veterinary Hospital to establish a regular cleaning maintenance program which incorporates advice on brushing and caring for your pets’ teeth at home.

ADC has been providing anesthesia-free dental care for over 10 years and has established a solid reputation among a network of over 300 veterinarians for our professionalism and our gentle, compassionate way with animals. We are proud to have them as a part of our medical team!
